Pitman Shorthand Learning Studio
Start like a real beginner: learn the sound, see the sign, hear the teacher, trace the stroke, then check your hand movement before moving ahead.
24 Pitman Consonant Signs
Every consonant is a sound sign. Learn the stroke direction first; then learn whether it is light or heavy. Do not chase speed until the same sign looks repeatable.
6 Vowel Groups
Vowels are shown with dots and dashes placed in first, second or third place beside a consonant stroke. Each group has a long form and a corresponding short form.
Position Writing Made Easy
Line position is part of Pitman reading. First-position outlines stay above the writing line, second-position outlines sit on the writing line, and third-position outlines pass through or just below the writing line according to the stroke.
- Say the sound aloud.
- Draw slowly in the correct direction.
- Check the line position.
- Repeat 10 times without changing length.
- Read your own signs back after 5 minutes.

Pitman Shorthand Course · Class 1 to Revision
A complete beginner-to-advanced course arranged in the correct learning order. Learn each rule, practise it, test yourself, then move to the next class.
Your first 7 days of Pitman
Do not chase speed on day one. First learn stroke direction, light/heavy pairs and the writing line. Then add vowels and position.
Write slowly enough to keep every stroke correct. Speed comes after the hand starts producing the same outline automatically.

Ruled-Line Outline Practice & Checker
Practise on position guides. Beginner consonants and vowels have built-in answer models; advanced words can use a model you save for repeat practice.
Save one correct model, then practise against it repeatedly.
Draw the outline, then press Check outline.
